The Champion Pulling Team of Decatur County.
_____________
This
picture of Tom and Jerry, the grey team used on the county bridge work,
and owned by James Konklin and Fred Barrett, of Leon, was taken just
after the team had won first prize in the big team pulling contest at
the Leon Fourth of July celebration. It was a hard fought contest, but
Tom and Jerry clearly proved their superiority over all contestants, and
established a record of pulling a dead weight of 7,205 pounds under
conditions which were not the best, for there was an enormous crowd
present at the pulling match and a great deal of noise and confusion to
excite the horses. The team is 5 and 6 years old and they weigh 2900
pounds.
