Enlisted Aug. 9, 1862. Mustered Aug. 21, 1862. Discharged for disability April 12, 1863, Milliken's Bend, La. See Co. C, 15th Infantry. Pension file National Archives, Washington, D. C. Military records describe Thomas Stanfield 5 foot 7 1/2 inches in height, blue eyes, light hair, light complexion. The records of Provost Marshal Geul show: "This man was received at Camp McClellan, rdz Davenport, Iowa, Oct 14, 1864 & assigned & forwarded for the 15 Ia Inft Ocit 25, 1864. Detach delivered at regimental headquarters Co. near Marietta, GA, Nov. 11, 1864. Casualties enroute not reported by name. No record of disability at Iowa Rdz. The records of this office furnish no further evidence of disability. Thomas J. Stanfield applied for a declaration for original invalid pension on 17 February 1888. He had an Army of the United States Certificate of Disability for Discharge dated 13 April 1863 signed by S. L. Glasgow, Lt. Col. commanding the regiment. In Thomas J. Stanfield's declaration for pension dated 9 Jan. 1926 that he is 85 years of age, born August 22nd, 1840 at Georgetown, Vermillion Co., Illinois. That he enlisted August 9, 1862 at Fort Des Moines, Iowa in Co. A 23rd Regt. Iowa Inf. and was discharged April 12th, 1863 at Millikens Bend, L.A., that he also served in Co. C 15th Iowa Inft. Since his service he has resided at Adell, Iowa, Lone Tree, Neb., Savanna, Mo., Hamburg, Iowa, Belleville, Kansas and Mankato, Kansas for the last thirty years. He was married to Eliza Jane Banks March 10th, 1861 by Thomas Browhill Justice of the Peace in Dallas Co., Iowa |
