HARRY G. KNAPP, FORMER COACH, CLAIMED BY DEATH
Harry G. KNAPP, 66, an outstanding coach in the Mount Ayr schools from 1928 to 1942, died suddenly Sunday night while visiting the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon JACKSON, of Arcadia, Calif. Graveside services will be held This (Thursday) afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock, at Redfield [East Linn Cemetery, Dallas County, Iowa], where Mr. KNAPP was born [1900] and reared. A winner of ten letters at Des Moines University, Mr. KNAPP was later named the school's all-time sports standout by the alumni association. He spent 39 years in the coaching ranks - two at Mitchelville; 14 most successful years in Mount Ayr and 23 years at the Will Rogers High School in Tulas, Okla. He retired only a few months ago as athletic diretors at Rogers. During his tenure as coach in the Mount Ayr schools, Mr. KNAPP's grid teams won 34 straight games before a single loss and then continued with 17 more victories. Surviving are his widow, Imogene, 4726 E. 22nd Pl., Tulsa, and two grandchildren.
