Oct. 1, 1907 Long Grove Mrs. Eva DeCook passed away suddenly at her home
2 1/2 miles north of Long Grove, Saturday at 6:30 o'clock of heart failure. She was 64 years 2 month and 13 days old. The funeral will be held Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic church at 10:00

Dhuyvetter was born in Belgium, July 17th 1843, came to America when 9 years
old, was married to Eva DeCook in 1863, they moved in the spring of 1871 to the
farm 2 1/2 miles north of Long Grove, where they have resided ever since. Eva DeCook, her husband passed away in 1903. She leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother, five sons
and five daughters, Frank A., Joseph A. Mrs. Julia Kennedy, Sister M. Visitation
with the Sisters of Humility of Cosgrove, Iowa. Burial: St. Ann's Cemetery

Obituary: The Clinton Morning Age Wednesday March 11, 1903 DeWitt, Ia.
March 10, 1903 Jos. DeCock, who at one time a resident of this town, died at his
home near Long Grove on Saturday night, and will be buried today at Walnut Grove
church.

OBITUARY: The Clinton Herald, Monday March 3, 1958 p.11 DeWitt Donatus A.
DeCock, 78, former DeWitt mayor, died about 11:15 p.m. Saturday at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Francis Kearney, in Monmouth, Ill. He had been in poor health for some time. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Catholic
church in DeWitt, with Rev. Edward Lew officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. The body is at the Hanrahan funeral home where friends may call after 4
p.m. today. The rosary will be
recited at 8 o'clock this evening by the Knights of Colubus, and at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday by Father Lew. Mr. DeCock
was born July 16, 1881, at Long Grove, the son of the late Evo and Pelagia
DeCock. He was married to Ella M.
Scallan DeVetter at St. Joseph's church in DeWitt Feb. 14, 1911. She preceeded him in death March 21, 1948. He served as mayor of DeWitt for two terms, and had been in the insurance
business for a number of years. Mr.
DeCock was a life member of Archbishop Hennessy council, Knights of Columbus,
and was a past grand knight. Surviving
are three daughters, Sister M. Donatus, BVM, Mundelein college Chicago, Mrs.
Francis Kearney, Monmouth, Ill., and Mrs. Edward Hurley, Des Moines; 11
grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Julia Vanderbeke,
Anaheim, Calif., and two brothers, Thomas and John of Davenport.

OBITUARY: The Clinton Herald, Monday March 22, 1948, p.7. DeWitt Mrs. D.A. DeCook died about 3:15 p.m. Sunday in her home at 602 Sixth avenue after a short illness. The body is at the Hanrahan funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Catholic church with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. Ella Scallan, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Scallan, was born April 21, 1888, in DeWitt, and was a life long resident. She was married to D.A. DeCook Feb. 14, 1911, in St. Joseph's church here. Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Francis J. Kearney, DeWitt, Mrs. Edwin J. Hurley, Des Moines, and Sister Mary Donatus, also of Des Moines, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth McCarl, DeWitt, and one brother, Dr. J.W. Scallan. Mrs. DeCock was a member of the Altar and Rosary society.

OBITUARY: The Clinton Herald 9 February 1999 p.7 Mary Kearney Amidon, 87, of 5837 Winwood Drive, Johnston, died Saturday at her residence. A funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Chapel at Bishop Drumm. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt. Brooks Funeral Care is in charge of arrangements. She was born in DeWitt to Donatus and Ella Scallan DeCock. She had lived in Iowa City, Tombston, Ariz., and DeWitt. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann (Donald) Kelly of Johnston, and Mrs. Susan (Michael) Andreson of West Point; six sons, James Kearney of Tombston, Robert Kearney of Phoenix, Ariz., Thomas Kearney of Naperville, Ill., Richard Kearney of Oaklay, Calif., Philip Amidon of Omaha, Neb., and Michael Amidon of Falcon Heights, Monn.; 27 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elizabeth hurley of Windsor Heights, and sister Mary DeCock of Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by a son. Death date: Deb. 6, 1999.

Miss
Mary DeCock, daughter of Mayor and Mrs. D.A. DeCock, became the bride today of
Francis J. Kearney, son of Mr. and Mrs M.J. Kearney, all of DeWitt, at a
ceremony at 8 o'clock in St. Joseph's Catholic church. Rev. James Curtin officiated and said the nuptial mass, the single ring
service being used. Rev. L. Boyle of Milcher, Ia., was in the sanctuary, and
Joseph Kearney and William Redden served as acolytes. Attending the couple were Miss Elizabeth DeCock, sister of the bride, and
Vincent Kearney, brother of the bridegroom. Miss Margaret Crowley was flower girl and the ushers were
William Troy and Joseph McCormick of Cedar Rapids. Miss Catherine Howes of Davenport played Lohengrin's Wedding March for
the processional, and Miss Josephine DeScheppar of Long Grove, cousin of the
bride, sang several nuptial selections for the communion and offertory. Mendelssohn's wedding march was the recessional. The bride entered on the arm of her father and was met at the altar by
the groom and best man. She was in
a gown of white satin made with tight fitting bodice, circular skirt with lace
insets and a short train, the long tight fitting sleves having lace insets
puffed above the elbow. A
three-quarter length veil was fitted to a pearl trimmed turban. The bridal bouquet was a cascade of Hohanna Hill roses. The bridesmaid was gowned in royal blue chiffon velvet, made floor
length, with elbow length pin-tucked, puffed sleeves. She wore a pale pink satin turban and carried an arm bouquet
of Talisman roses. Miss Crowely
wore a pale pink crepe with a white net bow and carried a basket of blue and
pink snapdragons and baby chrysanthemums. A
wedding dinner was served at high noon at the Spring Brook Golf and County club,
where decorations and color suggestion daintily harmonized pink and blue, the
bride's chosen colors. Covers were
laid for 75 guests. The centerpiece
on the bride's table was a five-tiered cake. Six cousins of the bridal couple, Margaret and Marcella Kearney, Phyllis
DeCock, Helen McManus of Davenport, Mary Genevieve DeCock of Long Grove and
Monica Michelson of DeWitt, attended the tables. The bridal couple left later on a wedding trip, and for
traveling the bride wore a brown tweed suit with full length coat trimmed in
beaver and accessories to match. After
Nov. 1 Mr. and Mrs. Kearney will be in their new home in an apartment in the
Iowa Investment Co. building. Both
young people are graduates of St. Joseph's school. The bride has been employed in the First National Bank and later in the
DeWitt Bank and Trust Co. where she continued to work until resigning a few
weeks ago. Mr. Kearney, for several
years, win in charge of Kearney's garage. he
is now engaged as a state parole agent.

of Des Moines and Mrs. Michael (Susan) Anderson of West Point,Iowa; four sons,
James of Tombstone, Robert of Viola, Thomas of Buffalo, N.Y., and Richard of
Oakland, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; a brother, Vincent of Clinton; and two
sisters, Mrs. Helen Troy and Mrs. Clare McQueeney, both of DeWitt. He was preceded in death by a brother.

OBITUARY: Clinton Herald died 31 August 1973. Services for Mrs. James J. (Macia Ann) Kearney, 36, Tombstone, Ariz. were held Monday in Arizona where the Dugan Fineral chapel, Bisbee, Ariz. was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Kearney died Friday in Arizona after an extended illness. Mr. Kearney was formerly a resident of DeWitt, Iowa. Mrs. Kearney is survived by her husband; a daughter, Jean, at home; sons Jay, Dan, and Tim, all at home; her parents and bothers and sisters.
