1976 History of Clinton County
The 1976 "History of Clinton County Iowa" by the Clinton County Historical Society: The picture to the left is a copy of the cover page, should you like to print one for your records. I am absolutely in love with this book. It is full of stories and photos -- two of my favorite things. This is one of those books that you have to read as no matter what you're actually looking for, several other very interesting things just jump out at you. The first 215 pages are the history of the county in chronological order. Much of it has been covered in other history books, I'm sure, but this is written very well and is much easier to understand that the 1879 history by L. P. Allen. The next hundred pages or so are stories that tell certain aspects of Clinton's history by those who were "there". The last part of the book is the Almanac. This is really wonderful -- there are sections on the schools, churches, towns, and many other topics. It gives you a great look at the Clinton of today and yesterday. There is also an index. To get a feel of Clinton County, this book is a must read. This book should be available through inter-library loan.
