Hook & Ladder Company
Organized The citizens of Garnavillo have organized a Hook & Ladder Company for protection against the fire fiend. The following officers were elected: Foreman - Eugene Barnes 1st Assistant - J. W. Hudson 2nd Assistant - H. Limbech Sec. - J. H. Tangeman Treas. - L. C. Meyer They intend to erect a building 12 X 30 on the east side of the public square for storing the truck, ladders, etc. A ball will be given in Turner Hall on the evening of Dec. 26th, the proceeds to be devoted to the benefit of the above company. ~Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Dec. 1878 |

Society The citizens of Garnavillo, in order to establish among themselves a better union, and the foundation of principles that will tend to elevate them, have organized the society entitled, The Garnavillo Social Literary Society. Busy Bees Organized Garnavillo has a new society, one which is of interest to the female sex alone. It is called the "Busy Bees" and its members are supposed to make the name an appropriate one. Its meetings are held every Wednesday evening at the respective homes of the members.
