State Vs Frank Fry,
indictment for desertion, was settled by the defendant
pleading guilty and the judge putting him under bonds to
live with his wife and support her. (see also, Nov. 1st
below) State Vs Otto Hartman, charged with malicious mischief, found guilty and fined $50.00 and costs, which were paid. ~Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 11 Jan. 1917. District Court Matters column. ----- State of Iowa vs. Frank von Howard. Charged with crime of giving and procuring intoxicating liquors. Plea of guilty entered. Fine of $25.00 and costs imposed. Also charged with carrying intoxicating liquors on a railroad car for unlawful purposes. Plea of guilty entered. Sentenced to term of 30 days in county jail at hard labor, and an additional 8 days on default of payment of above fine. State of Iowa vs. George W. Lewis. Charged with burglary by breaking and entering a store building. Defendant pleads guilty, and is sentenced to not more than ten years at hard labor at the penitentiary at Fort Madison. State of Iowa vs. John Shepard. Indicted for crime of maintaining a nuisance, i.e., selling liquor without permit. Plea of guilty entered and fine of $300.00 and costs assessed. State of Iowa vs. P. A. Murphy. Vagrancy. Defendant pleads guilty and is sentenced to six months in the county jail at hard labor. State of Iowa vs. Frank Lewis. Vagrancy. Defendant pleads guilty and is sentenced to six months in the county jail at hard labor. State of Iowa vs. James Corcoran. Vagrancy. Defendant pleads guilty and is sentenced to six months in the county jail at hard labor. State of Iowa vs. Damien Downs. Vagrancy. Defendant pleads guilty and is sentenced to six months in the county jail at hard labor. ~Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 19 Apr. 1917. District Court column. ----- State of Iowa vs Thomas Laws. Charged with maintaining a liquor nuisance. Defendant plead guilty and was fined $300.00 and costs. ~Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 19 July 1917. District Court column. ----- State of Iowa vs. Thomas Laws. Charged with running a house boat liquor establishment. At the justice court hearing he was found guilty and fined $100.00. Held in jail to await action of district court. ~Elkader Register & Argus, Thur.,, 30 Aug. 1917. District Court column. ----- State of Iowa vs. Adolph Eberhart. Plea of Guilty to charge of carrying concealed weapons. Fine of $100.00 and costs imposed. State of Iowa vs. Alexander Mack. Sentenced to six months in jail on his plea of guilty of vagrancy.
