The case of the State vs. Marvin
Walters, resulted in the jury returning a
verdict of guilty. It was on an indictment for seduction. ~Elkader Register, 05 Jan. 1899. District Court column. -- The District Court continued until Monday evening of this week. Among the criminal causes, the following were disposed of : State vs. M. Walters, verdict guilty, time given until first day of next term to file motion for new trial. State vs. Fred Luense. Plead guilty; sentenced to one year at Anamosa. State vs. Ira Weidner and Frank Lamott. Weidner plead guilty and sentenced to three months in jail. Motion to arrest judgement sustained. Frank Lamott discharged. State vs. Matt Lorang. Plead guilty on two counts, sentenced to Anamosa for terms of six and three months. State vs. Hiram Lant. Plead guilty, sentenced to Anamosa for nine months. ~Elkader Register, 12 Jan. 1899 -- An assault and battery case from the Patch was on trial before Justice Foster Saturday, and Rip Rate, the defendant, given thirty days at the county jail. ~Elkader Register, Thur., 18 May 1899. McGregor column -- In the case of the State of Iowa vs. Wm. Wood, for assaulting Marshal Sandusky on July 4th, the defendant was found guilty and fined $50. and costs. The case was tried this Thursday afternoon before Justice Soyster and a jury. ~Elkader Register, Thur., o6 July 1899. Elkport and Vicinity column -- The first jury trial was that of State of Iowa vs. F. W. Fox. Fox is on trial for shooting L. L. Lowers. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of assault and battery. ~Elkader Register, Thur., 19 Oct. 1899. District Court column -- Having plead Guilty to an indictment for gambling, L. L. Lowers was sentenced to pay a fine of $300. and serve sixty days in jail. ~Elkader Register, Thur., 26 Oct. 1899. District Court column |
