State vs. Frank Martin, the defendant plead guilty and was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary.

Two young men, named Hulverson and Johnson, got into a quarrel and Johnson drew a revolver and shot Hulverson, the ball entering his hip. They came to town the next day Friday, and the trial was held before Squire Foster, who gave Johnson thirty days.

State vs. J. M. Mydler, Dft (defendant) plead guilty, sentenced to 3 years at Anamosa.
State vs, D. Hayes and F. M. Morgan; plead guilty, sentenced to six months at Anamosa.
State vs. Frank Cushing and M. Quinn. Guilty, Cushing sentenced 3 years and 6 months, and Quinn 2 years and 9 months at Anamosa.
State vs. Wright and Bruckner, each plead guilty, and were given nine months at Anamosa.

State vs. S. E. White, Grant and Chas. Hemingway, the defendants were found guilty and sentenced to the county jail for 80 days
Henry Schulz was tried and found guilty as charged, and sentenced to 30 days in jail with a fine of $100

Last week Sheriff Benton conveyed Edmund Miller to Anamosa, by order of Gov. Drake. About two years ago Miller was convicted of being concerned in robbing a man on the train near Turkey River and sentenced to the penitentiary for three years. After serving seven months he was conditionally pardoned by the governor, but Gov. Drake, having heard that he had been indicted for another crime under the name Eells, ordered him taken back to Anamosa to serve out his former sentence.

State vs. Justus Herwig, Deft. fined $100. and costs of prosecution and imprisoned in jail for ninety days.
State vs Fred Frilck. On plea of guilty is sentenced to 6 months in penitentiary.
State vs Wm. Miller and Chas. Minney. Plead guilty and sentence suspended during good behavior.
State vs Wm. Mullaney. Pleads guilty and is sentenced to 8 months in penitentiary.

Judge Soyster tried his first case Friday. Jos. Noggle and Dan Smothers were arraigned before his honor on the charge of carrying concealed weapons. They were found guilty and were fined five dollars each and costs.

A couple of suspicious characters, a man and a girl, were picked up somewhat under the the influence of liquor Tuesday evening, and lodged in jail. The man was given thirty days the next morning and the girl sent out of town.

Sheriff Benton went to Anamosa Saturday with Jas. Irvine, Jas. Murray and Wm. Johnson, who were sent to the pen for highway robbery at North McGregor. Irvine was sent down for three years and the others for four years each. They plead guilty in the district court last week.

The trial of Herman Scholz for malicious mischief resulted in a verdict of Guilty.
Sate vs. Geo. McDermott. After trial by jury found Guilty of robbery.

State vs. Herman Scholz, the jury returned a verdict of guilty.
State vs. George McDermott, found guilty and defendant sentenced to two years at Anamosa.
State vs. Melvin Ricker. The jury after being out from 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon until 4 o'clock Sunday morning returned a verdict of guilty. The defendant being concerned in the robbery of Krieb's store at Elkport. He was sentenced to five years at Anamosa.
State vs. David Drinkhahn, indicted on the charge of attempted rape on Nolte child at Guttenberg, the jury found the defendant guilty of assault and battery. He was sentenced to a fine of $100. or go to jail for thirty days. We understand he went to jail.
State vs. Thos. Allen. Allen was concerned in a shooting affair at North Buena Vista. Found guilty and sentenced to one year at Anamosa.

Sheriff Benton and Constable Schroeder departed Tuesday for Anamosa Penitentiary with Edward Allen, Melvin Ricker, George McDermott, Thos. Nolan and Thos. Maskin, the prisoners sentenced by Judge Hobson. The Dubuque Herald on Wednesday morning in mentioning the fact of the party being in their city says: George McDermott, who will do two years for robbery, is also known here. His right name is Murphy. Last spring he was sent to Colorado apparently being in the last stages of consumption but has turned up again and is in better health. Tom Nolan and Tom Macken, with sentences of four years each for larceny, are professionals.
