D. M. Zearley
Mallory Twp.

D. M. Zearley, saloon keeper, Osterdock, was born in Fayette County, Penn., in 1815. In 1850 he came to Iowa and located a farm which he worked for many years.

In 1839 he married Sarah Hunt, daugher of Jonas Hunt, a native of Pennsylvania. Bythis marriage there are six children-- Jonas H. born 1840 married and living in Mallory Township; Anna (deceased); Matilda Jane, born in 1844, in Virginia; Allen, born 1846 (deceased); Mary Frances, born 1848, wife of Simon J. Jones, of Mallory Township; John J. born 1851.

Mrs. Zearley is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. Zearley is a member of the Masonic lodge. He votes the Democratic ticket.

His father moved to Virginia, and lived about eleven years, where he and his wife died; he engaged in farming and milling there.

Mr. Zearley has been farming in Clayton County about twenty years, teaching school winters, until his age obliged him to discontinue. He then sold his farm and is now engaged in running a temperance saloon in Osterdock.
