August Uecker, merchant tailor,
Elkader, one of the enterprising business men of this
city, was born in Prussia, Germany, April 28, 1853, and
there received his education. When fourteen years of age
he was apprenticed to a tailor, giving three years time
and $30 in cash, for instruction. In 1872 he emigrated to
the States, locating in Dunkirk, N.Y. In 1876 he came to
Clayton County. In 1877 he married Wilhelmina Witt, who
was born in Germany. By this union there are three
children, viz.: Herman, Louisa, Alfredia. Mr. Uecker is a
