Peter Poull (1842-1910) and Mary Ann Decker (1844-1914) were married in Wisconsin in 1864. Both died in Wisconsin. They had 13 children: Nicholaus A., William, John Nicholas V., Anna C., Rose K., George, Michael J., Leopold J.B., Peter N., Mary L., Clara A. and Ida R.

In 1899 Mike Poull and his wife Mary Houlahan came to Elkader, Iowa, with his sister Rose Poull and her husband Leo Bink. That same year, the two gentlemen opened Poull and Bink, a department store on main street in Elkader.

Later Mike and Rose's sister Anna Cecilia Poull joined the business. Previously she was a milliner in Wisconsin and continued to make hats at the Poull & Bink store.
Eventually a brother John Poull (1876-1953) also joined the business, working as a butcher and warehouse man in the grocery side of the business. Both Anna and John made their home with the Leo and Rose Poull Bink family.

Another sister, Clara Anna Poull and her husband Hubert George Johannes (1885-1963) came to Clayton County and managed the Volga branch of the store.
