The class of 1898, largest in the history of the Osceola high school to that date, was made up of 16 young ladies and 10 young men.
Graduation exercises were held at Touet's opera house on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, May 18 and 19, 1898. It is presumed that the reason for a two-night affair is that each graduate was introduced and gave a somewhat lengthy oration on one of the U.S. presidents.
Valedictorian was Helen Patterson, and salutatorian honors were awarded to Edith Burr. Also included in the list of graduates were Mable Horton, Blanche Ralph, Ada C. Gould, Will Horton, Clarence Smith, Myrtle Smith, Orval Rayl, Maude Beashor, Alice McIntire, Cora Cooley, John Mullen, John Findlay, Thomas F. Olicer, Bess Findlay, Rose Cooper, Myrtle Hood, George Shuman, Carl Dare, Lena Oliver, Guy McFarland, Lucetta Brubaker, Lillian Butler, Mable Brown, and Will Lawrence.
