Leander Bader was a farmer in Lowden, Iowa for over 40 years. He raised a large family on the farm. Leander's Obituary tells of his service during the Civil War.  His father, John Bader, served in the Pennsylvania Calvary, Comapny K enlisting at the age of 50, he died in 1888 at a soldiers home in Virginia and is buried at Virginia National Cemetery.

Leander is buried in California, there is a marker that says "Com. K 35 REG. IOWA INFT. VOL."
