FRED A. DANIELS



FRED A. DANIELS, MEMBER OF CREW OF MIRACLE SHIP - Fred A. Daniels, son of Mr. & Mrs. F. R. Daniels of Aurelia, was a member of the U.S.S. New Orleans which was the subject of an article appearing in a recent issue of Colliers magazine, it was disclosed Saturday. The magazine article told how the vessel came through after a severe torpedoing.

Seaman First-Class Daniels, who spent a two-week leave at his parents' home a short time ago, was a member of a fire control division on the "miracle ship" for 18 months.

Seaman First-Class Daniels is at a Pacific coast naval base awaiting transfer.  He is a graduate of Aurelia High School and had two years of engineering at Morningside College, Sioux City.  He has seen much action, taking part in the shelling of Wake Island, the Gilberts and Marshalls in the central Pacific; in addition to other actions in the southwest Pacific and while on convoy duty
