Cpl. Bernard Bennett, son of Wilbur Bennett, Quimby, who was seriously wounded in Italy, is back in the United States. His father received a wire from Charleston, N. C., reporting his son was "feeling fine."
Henry  Merel Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith, has been promoted to seaman 1c. He is stationed at San Diego, Calif.
Ensign Bill Siple left Friday after a visit here with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Siple.
Pvt. Niles Marsh, who is stationed in New Mexico, visited his mother here last week.
James C. Dunn, seaman 2c, has been transferred from Farragut, Idaho, to a gunnery school at Seattle, Wash.
James Frederick Rupp, registered Monday for the draft on attaining his 18th birthday.
Dale Garris, seaman 2c has completed his basic training at Farragut, and is not stationed at San Diego.
Pvt. Lyle Marshall, of the army air corps, stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arvil Hall.
Cpl. Warren Ziegler, who is stationed at West Point, N. Y., is spending a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Bilnery, who are employed at the state hospital.
Major Charles Ihle has arrived in New Guinea from the Hawaiian islands, according to a cabled message received by his wife. Major Ihle is the son of Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Ihle of Cleghorn.
Lt. Frank Maher, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Maher, Hollywood, Calif., former Cherokeans, has returned to the United States after many months of overseas duty. Lt. Maher wears the air medal, eight oak leaf clusters, and a campaign ribbon. Pilot of a Flying Fortress, Lt. Maher flew 48 missions and 40 sorties.
Pvt. Paul Farnham, son of rev. and  Mrs. J. A. Farnham has been transferred to Parris island, for recruit training preparatory to officer training in the marine corps.
Pfc. Kieth Wieland, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wieland, Aurelia, has graduated from Harlingen (Texas) gunnery school.
Lyman Simpson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Simpson has been promoted from second to first lieutenant. He is stationed with the air corps in England.
Pfc. Clifford Tom Coombs, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Coombs, Aurelia, has completed a course in aerial gunnery at Harlingen, Texas.
Capt. Richard Walsh, Camp Hood, Texas, has been visiting his wife and small son at the N. M. Nelson home.
Lt. Robert E. Jones, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Brete,Cherokee, is a prisoner of Germany.
Beryl . Haburn, former Cherokee mechanic and now a technician, fourth grade, in the army ordnance department has completed a specialist's course on diesel tank engines at Flint, Mich.
Olive Huseman, 24, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Huseman, Alta, an employee of the Hotel Lewis here, has been accepted for service in the W. A. C. Her sister, Nancy already is receiving preliminary training at Fort Des Moines.
Pvt. Neil Jacobe, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Jacobe, Long Beach, Calif., former Cherokean, visited friends here last week. Pvt Jacobe has been in the service 11 months and is studying radio and radar at Truax Field, Madison, Wisc.
A-C James Mansfield has been critically ill with rheumatic fever in a hospital at Demind, N. M.
Pfc. Edward Lester Wilcox, son of Mrs. John Bergman, Marcus, who has been visiting friends and relatives, returned to duty at Camp Lee, Va., Wednesday.
Deloise R. Martinsen, 22, son of Chief of Police and  Mrs. Romaine Martinsen, is in a rest camp at Newport, R. I.
Merle W. Simonsen, son of Dr. and Mrs. Warren E. Simonsen, Quimby, has finished his engineering training at Iowa State college and has been transferred to Asbury Park, N. J.
Rev. C. H. Thaden, Cleghorn Meriden pastor, has received orders to report at Harvard University March 21 for training in the chaplain's corps.
A-C Harlan Buettner, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Buettner, has completed his basic training at Merced, Calif., and is now located at Fort Sumner, N. M.
Virgil Buck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Buck, Washta, who has been in air corps training at Turner Field, Ga., arrived in Cherokee Wednesday to visit friends.
Seaman 2c Garland Nelson, who has completed his basic training at Farragut, Idaho, is home on a 15 day leave.
S1c Leland Christiansen, former Cherokean, has completed a course in gunnery, radio and radar at Miami, Fla. He was visiting in Cherokee last week.
Lee Roy Reinert is now stationed at Great Lakes, Ill.
Pvt. Darrell Reed visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don S. Reed, on a two-day pass recently. He is stationed at Sioux Falls, S. D.
