FIRST MAYOR OF CLEGHORN The
October – November 1977 issue of the Newsletter carried an article
entitled the First Mayor of Cleghorn. That article stated that
Elijah A. Allen was the first mayor and gave a very brief sketch of his
life. The source for that article was McCulla’s 1914 History of
Cherokee County in a biographical sketch of Mr. Allen.
Below is
a list of mayors of Cleghorn. This list is of mayors of the
incorporated town of Cleghorn. The Bicentennial history also
states that the Village of Cleghorn prior to incorporation had a mayor
and town council. Mr. Allen came to Cleghorn in 1899. He
must therefore have served as mayor in the years 1900 and 1901.
