TORRID WEATHER TAKES LIVES AT STATE HOSPITAL 10 Reported Victims During Present Heat Wave Ten
of the 16 deaths occuring among State hospital patients during July
have been directly attributed to heat, Dr. C. S. Oberman superintendent
in charge reported Wednesday. Fifteen of the person dying were 50 years
of age or older. Everything possible is being done to alleviate the
suffering of the patients both Dr. Oberman and Dr. Dean Lovett state,
but the extreme heat, coupled with the fact that the older people are
more susceptible to the weather conditions, makes the task a hard one. Tuesday
brought the highest toll, four. The first patient to die from the heat
sucumbed July 5. No deaths ocurred Monday but there were three Sunday.
