TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES:
Due to tight binding the first letter of County of Birth is sometimes cut-off. In all
cases it was obvious which county was meant, so the letter has been filled in and noted
in the Transcriber's Remarks column.
No Township or Range numbers were listed.
Capital letters "L" and "S" are similar throughout and at times difficult to discern the
difference.
Household Number 71 and Family Number 72 skipped by enumerator.
No page 263 included.
Page 264 and Household 44, Family 95 appears out of order with rest of Griggs County
Census pages. The end of page 262 and the beginning of page 265 appear to be a
continuation of each other. Without a township name on each page it is possible the
Thomas Blake family was misplaced into Griggs Township as the family resided in Ida
County at least through 1895 before moving to Guthrie County Iowa. The other possibility
is the page belongs at the end of the township census as Family Number 95 and Household
Number 94 with Household Number 44 being a mistaken entry for 94. No other Section 3
entry for S.W. N.W. was found through the census.
Occupation: After Farmer written in another hand is what looks like "Sob" or "Lob".
In previous entries there are more letters that look like "Labor" in writing and appears
to be the same handwriting, but possibly more abbreviated on this entry. Page 255,
Lines 7-8
Household and Family Number (66 & 67) likely a mistake listed here rather than next line
for John Kramer; Military box not clearly marked, although a slight mark was made in the
lower righthand corner. Not clear if intentionally marked for military.
Page 259, Line 18
Household and Family Number (66 & 67) most likely should be posted here for John Kramer
as Section and Residence description given. Conflict listed here with Military, Vote and
Alien Not Filed status all marked. Only male citizens are eligible for military and to
vote at age 18 and 21 respectively. Page 259, Line 19
Hand scribed number 16 at upper left of page is in sequence with others. This page has
black writing in a white box at the upperleft "Blank Page (5)" over the scribed "page
"16" on the left. The last page 266 has a hand written number 4 above the page number
266. The last Household number on page 266 is 93 and Family number is 94. Perhaps the
transcriber meant Household 94 and was correct with Family number 95. There are no other
Section 3 S.W. N.W. entries in Griggs Township. In 1880 lived in Jo Davies County,
Illinois ans 1900 in Guthrie County, Iowa. Page 264, Line 1
