DR. JOHN PIPHER was born in Wittenberg, Germany, on November 16, 1848. His father died in Germany and John and his mother emigrated to America in 1853, locating in Monroe, Iowa. They moved to Des Moines in 1861 and John Pipher was graduated from the Eclectic Medical College of Cincinnati, Ohio, in the spring of 1874. He commenced practice in Norwalk, Iowa but soon moved to Greenfield, Adair County. He relocated in Marne in 1876 and was the second postmaster, from 1877 to June, 1879. He married Ephmira Black in October, 1879, and Dr. John Pipher removed his practice to the new town of Griswold shortly thereafter.
