CHARLES H. LOCKE was the son of E. J. Locke and was born in Rhode Island on March 26, 1848. In 1867, he moved to Illinois and settled first in Jersey County, then moved to Christian County, where he stayed until 1870, except for a brief return to Rhode Island. In 1870, he accompanied his father and moved to Cass County, where Charles H. Locke purchased 255 acres of land in Section 31, in the southwestern corner of Brighton Township. He returned to Christian County, Illinois, and in 1874 married Henrietta Garwood. Charles and Henrietta Locke then returned to Cass County and raised their family on the farm in Brighton Township.
