CLAUS KRAMBECK, SR. was born in Germany on August 14, 1844. He grew to manhood in his native land and came to America in 1873. The Krambeck farm included a section of land one mile north of Marne and the family raised prime cattle on the farm. At the Chicago Livestock Show of 1904, Claus Krambeck's entry won the National Grand Champion Prize; this was but one of a series of honors given to the entries of the Krambeck farms. On the way home from Chicago there were ceremonies in Des Moines and Atlantic, and the arrival at Marne was markied by a parade up Washington Street accompanied by the Marne Band. Claus Krambeck, Sr., died here on September 24, 1908, and was survived by his wife Christina and their children Claus, Jr., Fred, John, Ida and Stena.
