JOHN FINDLAY, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on June 14, 1850. He emigrated to America in May, 1871, and established himself in the Chicago area. He worked as a clerk for five years, then as a traveling salesman. In July, 1876, John Findlay moved to Brighton Township and purchased a 120-acre tract of land in Section 27,one-half mile east of Marne. John Findlay also bought lots on the south side of Main Street west of Washington Street along the railroad and in 1880 moved his grain and cattle-shipping operations from the south side of Marne to his lots north of the tracks. He married Elizabeth Williams in 1879, and they had four children - George, Mary, Charles and Mercedes.
