CHRISTIAN A. DIERKSEN was born in the Kingdom of Prussia on January 28, 1832. At age 26, he emigrated to New York and traveled to California by way of Panama. He mined in the gold fields until 1866, when he returned to Prussia for one year. Mr. Dierksen then embarked on a steamship for the United States, and settled near Iowa City, where he farmed for two years. In 1868 he married Dora Petersen, and they had one child, Kate. The Dierksens then moved to a farm in the northeast corner of Washington Township, Cass County, which Mr. Dierksen sold after his wife died in 1871 and in turn bought a farm in Brighton Township, where he lived until his death on July 9, 1906.
