GEORGE CHRISTENSEN was born on the island of Als in Denmark on June 6, 1859. He emigrated to the United States and settled in Davenport, Iowa, while still in his teens. After spending a year in Davenport and adjusting to the American way of life, George and his brother, Hans removed to Cass County. George Christensen worked for some of the early prominent farmers of Brighton Township, including Nels Hoegh and G. B. Olney. George and his wife, Mary, were married here in Brighton Township and raised their family here prior to George Christensen's untimely death at age 45 on December 9, 1904. The family included six children, Andrew, Dora, Chris, Mary, George and Clara.
