JACOB BACKSEN was born in Germany and married Elizabeth Sievers, who bore him seven children. Mr. Backsen came to Cass County about 1870 and arrived in Brighton Township about 1880. In the 1880's he operated a 360-acre farm in Section 4, east of the present Marne interchange on Interstate 80, Jacob Backsen was employed for some time by the railroad.
