The bridge is 3 1/2 miles west of
Boone. The river isn't very wide.
There is a wagon bridge two blocks up the river from the bridge.
There
is a watch tower at each end of the bridge and only the men in
those
are allowed on the bridge. A double railroad track, the C. & N. W.,
crosses the bridge. Two log cabins are under the bridge but are not in
the picture.

Message reads: "Arrived house all O. K. The trains
were all on time.
Rollan says he will stay house the rest of the
winter. Say did you find a little round
Eastern Star pin in your house
or buggy? I lost mine somewhere between there and here.

you find it please. Goodbye. Ella Teu?phelou(?)

"Magazines and newspapers of all nations have published
the story of Kate Shelly's heroism that dark and stormy night
in July,
when, a girl of only fourteen years, she crossed the old wooden
structure, since replaced by the
above steel bridge, on hands and
knees, during the violent storm then raging, the river at the time
being
much higher than shown in this picture, nearly reaching the
ties."
ddressed to Mrs. Hugh Currie, Chadron, Neb. Message reads: "we
are having a swell time resting eating also taking in the city. Your
Friend, Mrs. H. Beals."
