Christopher "Big Chris" Jon Treiber, 65, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 24, 2025. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday, January 27, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Chris was born on January 11, 1960, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Ralph and Patricia (Petersen) Treiber. Chris attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Bishop Heelan Catholic School and North High School. Chris married his first love, Jan Alexander, in May of 1979 and they had three children, Elisabeth, Christopher Ross, and Ali.
Chris and Jan owned an antique store, Yesterday's Best, and Chris worked for the Sioux City Stockyards with his father Ralph in the 1980s. Chris worked as a maintenance operator for the City of Sioux City for 27 years and was a Union Stagehand for Local IATSE #42 for 20 years. Chris married his second love, Kristine Elkjer, in July of 1999. Together they owned Old Town Antiques and shared a blended family of six kids.
Chris was a lifelong friend of "Bill W," loved antiquing or "junking" as he would call it, and was the number one, top consumer of Dr. Pepper and Marlboro Reds. Chris especially loved his family and spending time with them. If he knew a holiday or a family gathering was getting close, he could barely contain his excitement. Chris was a world class storyteller as well as an avid history buff, particularly regarding Sioux City and World War II, and enjoyed all things rock n' roll. Chris was truly a one-of-a-kind person, someone who marched to the beat of his own drum and lived every single day on his own terms. Chris possessed a smile that would immediately make one's day better and a laugh that was larger than life. Chris was a strong man full of wisdom and with a heart of gold. Though Chris is physically gone, he has left behind a lifetime of memories.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Christopher (Tara) Treiber, Alexandra (Trevor) Osterholt; mother, Patricia Treiber; former wives, Jan Alexander and Kristine Elkjer; grandchildren, Grace, Norah, Sullivan, Harrison, August, and Finnegan Treiber; his siblings, Kim (Marla) Treiber, Lori Treiber, Beth (Bob) Pigott and Tom (Paula) Treiber; and many other loved ones and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph; daughter, Elisabeth Treiber; brother-in-law, Douglas Trobaugh.
