Daved Windsor Hammerstrom, 70, passed away on Feb. 3, 2025, while cuddling his beloved cats at Carriage House Assisted Living in Denton, TX, due to complications from Multiple System Atrophy. Daved was born in Sioux City, IA, in 1954 to Clarice and Ronald Hammerstrom. He served in the United States Air Force from February 1973 to November 1977, during which time he was stationed in Alaska, Washington, as well as the Nakhon Phenom Royal Thai Air Force base communications center. After honorable discharge, he attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, obtaining an associate degree in computer programming. Between the skills learned during his military service and his education, he professionally worked as a computer programmer for various companies throughout his career. From Swift Transportation to Fender guitars to his last job with Validus Technologies, his AS400 and RPG programming and analyst skills were sought after to keep companies running smoothly. He taught programming to students at Glendale Community College in Arizona. Daved was an avid bowler, and he played for many years in leagues. He enjoyed watching sports and was an Iowa Hawkeyes superfan. He loved animals, especially wolves and cats, and cared deeply for protecting the environment. He especially liked the landscape of the southwest and collected art from the region. He also loved his grandchildren and treasured his time with them. Daved is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his two daughters, Cari Lambrecht with husband, Nathan, and their two daughters, Adeline and Lorelei, of Hendersonville, TN, and Katy Even, with husband, Chris, and their daughter Ember and son Asher, of Leander, TX, as well as his siblings Doug, Dennis, Connie and Chris. His cats, Mac and Sally, remain at the Carriage House with a fellow Vietnam veteran to be cared for. A service for Daved will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery over Memorial Day weekend. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter, veterans' organization, or the National Park Foundation.
