May 2, 1951 ~ September 6, 2019Neil T. Haugen, 68, of rural Northwood, Iowa, died on September 6, 2019, at his home.
Neil Haugen was born to Marlys (Langerud) and Truman Haugen on May 2, 1951, in Forest City, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran Church, Leland, Iowa, he married Donna Reyerson at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, Northwood, Iowa, in 1971.
Then, Neil enlisted in the Air Force for three years. In addition, he served in the National Guard which led him to his deployment in Operation Desert Storm and a tour in Korea. Nonetheless, after twenty-three years in the National Guard, he retired. For several years, he drove semi-truck while working for several different companies, and he worked at Winnebago Industries for many years, retiring just a few years ago.
Having a passion for hunting and firearms, Neil loved the outdoors. For several years, he participated on trap shooting teams in Ventura, Iowa, and Austin, Minnesota. Moreover, he enjoyed his membership in the American Legion and the VFW. Above all, however, he loved spending time with his family including his four grandchildren and his pets, Gunner and Monster.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Donna; his son, Jacob, and his wife, Melissa; and his grandchildren: Xander, Katelyn, Shyla, and Leah; his brother, Kim Haugen; and his sister, Holly; and his brother in-law, John Adams; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends. Neil was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 13, 2019, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, 705 Silver Lake Road, Northwood, Iowa 50459, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday evening, September 12, 2019, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again for one hour before the services at the church. Burial will take place at the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Emmons Louis/Tveite Post #317 and the Northwood VFW Post #6779. The family suggest that memorials be made to the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery, 705 Silver Lake Road, Northwood, Iowa 50459.
