The following is a combination of three emails that I sent to the Wapello Co list in response to your request for information. I wasn't sure it was being posted to this list, so came here to do it separately today. It appears that my email to the list didn't post. So, here is all the data I found for you.

Julie Bissell Tupker

I found the following thus far:

1870 Louisa Co, Marshall page 477
James Humiston 36 CT
Sarah E 30 Ohio
Ellen 12 IA
Charles 11 IA
Horace 9 IA
Lucy 4 IA
Hattie 3 IA
Arthur 1 IA

and in 1900

1900 Wapello Co, Ottumwa page 212
William A. Humeston b Jan 1869 31 married 10 years IA MA OH
Ollie B b March 1870 mother of 1 child/none living TX OH MY

More Info:

found Sarah E. Humiston, Arthur's mother, in Clark Co, Jackson in 1910 page 37 as head of household only with a boarder....says she was mother of 9 and only 2 living.

In 1920, Sarah was in Marshall Co, Marshallton page 214 in the household of her daughter Sada M., husband and family.

Charles, brother of Arthur, in 1900 and 1910 was in Louisa Co, Marshall. If you need those page numbers, let me know...I forgot to jot them down.

1910 Wapello Center page 60
William Humington 41 m 20 years IA CT OH
Ollie 40 mother of two children /1living TX MA OH
Lea 6 IA IA TX

1910 Wapello, 4th Wad Ottumwa Center page 152
W. A. Humistone 50 IA CT OH
Ollie 49 TX OH Maryland
Lea 16 IA IA TX

Hope that answers some of your questions. There is other data of course in the census entries, but I have included page numbers so that you can check these out yourself

Julie Bissell Tupker

have found some additional data for you....

In 1860, Louisa Co, Marshall page 872

I found James Humiston (and family) on this page along with another family two households away with Humiston young people. It looks like James' mother had been widowed and remarried.

James Humiston 25 CT
Sarah E 20 OH
Ellen J. 2 IA
Charles P 1 IA

Thomas Forbes 63 NY
Lucy 49 CT
Lucy A Huniston 17 CT
Sarah (?hard to read) IA
George Forbes 7 IA
John Huniston 21 CT

From this...we can speculate that Lucy Forbes had been previous married to a Huniston who was the father of James 25, Lucy A 17. and John 21. While George Forbes could be the offspring of Thomas Forbes' previous marriage, it would be very possible that he was the son of Thomas and Lucy. I'm guessing this due to the age of Thomas Forbes. A previous wife may have been in her mid to upper 50s when George Forbes was born. Lucy would only have been 42 and is a likely mother..thus George Forbes is probably the half brother of your James Huniston.

A marriage for Thomas and Lucy may have occurred in Iowa...probably right around 1850-52.

There might be a probate for Lucy's husband, James's father, in the courthouse of the county where Lucy remarried around that time frame...a check of the probate index would surely turn up a male by this name.

Looking back to the 1840 census....the family was somewhere in CT do to the birth year of Lucy A. Huniston, but possibly by 1850 they could have been in Iowa...or even back in CT, but my guess is Iowa.
