I used Heritage Quest to locate Richard Thompson in 1860 for you. He is located as follows:

Wapello Co, Richland Twp page 628 Kirkville PO

Richard 44 $1400/$343 farmer b Ireland
Perlina 26 PA
John H 14 Ohio
James A 12 Ohio
Albert R 10 Ohio
(?)ephema J. 7 Iowa
Tidiraan 2 Iowa
Sarah E 1 Iowa

I may be able to locate Richard in the 1850 census for you with the threeboys...but Perlina likely isn't the mother we'll see in the household. I would guess that maybe Richard married her in Iowa or just before he left OHio.

I will also check for an Ohio marriage if I can find Richard and wife and kids in the 1850 census.
