From the Wapello County History book
SIOC CEMETERY is in the southeast corner of Wapello County in Washington Township. It is sometimes referred to as the Sioux Cemetery. Two early burials are dated 1845 and 1847. Joseph Vansioc was buried in 1855. Cyrus F. Smith and wife Abby deeded two and 75/100 acres to the trustees of Washington Township for $100 and they were to maintain the fences and gate. This tract was puchased in 1888. This cemetery has the most unique location of any cemetery in the county. It is south of the Des Moines River on top of a hill. There are no trees or timber around it but a few in the cemetery. It looks out over the Des Moines River Valley and provides one of the most picturesque views of the valley.
