You have a very interesting case here.
I checked the census records in Iowa for 1900 and found Frederick Klingler, born June 1834 in Ohio, with wife Eliza E. born Feb 1835 in New York, along with son John R. Klingler, born Feb 1868 in Iowa. All were living in Soap Creek Township, Davis County, Iowa. It is obvious that Eliza is not the mother of John since John's mother was born in Ohio.
What makes it interesting is that there appears to be several Klinler families in Davis County in 1900. By 1910, I can't find one.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can find 4 marriages for your Eliza Elizabeth in Wapello County as follows:
Eliza E. Orndorff married E. M. Willard on 26 Jan 1875.
Eliza E. Willard married Nathan Simmons on 25 Aug 1890.
Eliza E. Simmons married Frederick Klingler on 22 Nov 1899. and finally (maybe)
Eliza E. Klingler married William E. Dowd on 26 Aug 1903.My best guess is that Frederick Klingler died and Eliza remarried William E. Dowd. Before his marriage to Eliza, William E. Dowd (born Feb 1836 in Ohio) was living in Richland Township, Wapello County with a daughter Lydia Smithart and 2 grandchildren.
I tried to find Eliza's burial place by checking each of her prior names to see if she was buried with one of her earlier husbands, since I think it would be unlikely that she would be buried beside a husband that she had been married to for such a short time. WPA records don't show her under any prior name in either Wapello or Davis counties.
Did she have marriages prior to Orndorff? If so, she may be buried with one of her earlier husbands.
