SUBJECT #1: Odess David Martin born in Iowa circa 1889 to David R and Nellie Martin, shown in 1895 special census as being 5yo and having 2 younger sisters, Hazel and Ethel, aged 4 and 1.
married
SUBJECT #2: Gertrude Schwartz,
SUBJECT #3: My father, Donald Edwin Martin, b. 27 July 1914, in Ottumwa, Wapello County
SUBJECT #4: My uncle, Harry M Martin, was born in 1917, but I am not positive as to the location of his birth.I have been searching for nearly 6 years for a single solid clue as to the merits of my father's parentage, and to his ancestry, but to no avail.
This much I do know from the few letters etc that I have.
A 1941 probate record settling the estate of John and Margaret Schwartz listed my father and uncle each having 4/63 interest in the estate. The administrator was Carl Schwartz, and the location was Otttumwa. The estate consisted mainly of 4 lots in ottumwa.
I was told that Gertrude passed in 1929 or 1930, but not where.
Odess remarried a woman named Ethel in 1934, and then passed in 1935, and I am not sure of the location of either Odess or Gertrude's deaths or burials.
I found a Gertrude Briggs, married to an Edw. Schwartz after grad from Lyons HS in 1912. They are shown to be living in Lucas SD (no such place) around 1925. My father, uncle and grandfather are shown in Custer SD in 1930 census, and there are quite a few Schwartzes shown in Custer.
Odess supposedly worked at a "Sanitarium" most of his adult life, but the 1930 census shows him to be an unemployed trucker in the lumber industry. Can anyone out there help me solve the mystery? I am completely confused and I need some help. I need to know the Martin side (Odess' siblings, his father's siblings and parents) and I really need to be sure that I ahould be traceing the Martins versus the Edw. Schwartz/Gertrude Briggs lineage.
Thank you for your help.
