Murder of Benjamin Nye by his son in law of "Cedar County Iowa."
Benjamin Nye was the son of Iram and Ellinor Ellis Nye who were married October 29, 1772 in Sandwich MA. Benjamin was the 8th born. His sibblings being; Ellis, Moses, Ephriam, Hannah, Polly, and Iram. Both of Benjamine's parents and most of his sibblings died and are buried in Montpelier, Vermont.
He was the first settler in Montpelier Iowa in 1834. He built a log cabin near "Pine Creek" in the spring of 1848.
Location of this cemetery is on "Wild Cat Den Road", not too far from the Mill.
His son in law George McCoy of "CEDAR COUNTY IOWA" murdered him in Montpelier on March 3, 1852. Husband of daughter Harriett Nye.Benjamin was stabbed to death. George came to Nye's home to get his children and Benjamin put up a resistance.
George went to court and was found he had murdered Benjamin in self defense and under such stress.*Wapello County Iowa Newspaper death notice; Ottumwa, Iowa
