1870 census
My guess is that Sherman may have been away to war as it does show the first Sherman as being a civil war vet. Also COLY was probably a nickname.
What do you think? It does seem confusing. Here is another thought. Maybe the so called 2 Sherman's could actually have been all in the same. In the one book of Agency, it gave info which said he died in 1875 (could be a misprint) to read 1865?; Civil war vet. There is probably a plaque saying this on or near his stone. I bet you anything that there is just 1 Sherman and the 2 cemetery books list it as being in section 36. I may ask to have somebody that I know to go to the Agency cemetery to look for you. I would if I were there in Iowa but I am home in California. If she can help, I will let you know.
