Lyle, if you will send me your address I will mail the information to you. A summary is as follows:
Gertrude Holt committed suicide in Des Moines, Iowa by "throwing herself into the river suffering from an unsound mind".
You may wish to have someone do a look-up in the Des Moines Register & Tribune for the date in question. The Ottumwa Courier for that date is not on microfilm. On 28 May 1901 there is an article which reports the result of the Coroner's Jury in Des Moines. If you are not familiar with Iowa, Des Moines is located in Polk County.
With regard to Herman L. Holt, a Coroners Jury ruled that his death was from natural causes. Quoting from the Ottumwa Courier article of November 13, 1905
"A post mortem examination over the remains of Mr. Holt was conducted by Coroner F.W. Mills and Dr. A.O. Williams Sunday afternoon. It was found that there was a rupture of the right ventricle of the heart. Dr. Williams said at the inquest that there was also a discoloration of the skin at the throat, but no contusions of the deeper tissues so that Mr. Holt could not have been choked to death and that the heart was affected with fatty degeneration."
