John Shea, died on his 52nd wedding anniversary, was born in the County of Kerry, Ireland, on June 17, 1832. Coming to the United States in 1833, to Iowa in 1858, settling in Lee County. On Feb. 17, 1858 he married Miss Honora Garvey at that place. There were the parents of 9 children, 8 sons and 1 daughter, of whom all but two of the sons survive. The children in order of birth are: Frank, deceased. Tade, of Ottumwa, a Milwaukee railway conductor, John Jr., roadmaster on the Duluth & Iron range railway. Will, roadmaster on the Milwaukee. Jerry, who is with the Doty clothing Co, in Ottumwa. James an engineer on the Duluth & Iron Range railway in Minnesota. Mrs Alice Callahan, Edward, Deceased. Dan R., conducts an ice cream parlor, Ottumwa. Mr Shea assisted in laying the track when the railroad built from Keokuk to Eddyville. He was roadmaster on the Rock Island for 27 years. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren. His death occurred Feb. 17th, 1910, at the age of 77 years and 8 months. Funeral was conducted at St Mary's Catholic church, burial laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
