Elmer Jennings

Elmer E. "Sam" Jennings, 83, of Route 2, Fairfield, died at 5:20 a.m. Monday, March 4, 1991, at the Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield.

Born March 29, 1907, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Edward and Myrtle Black Jennings. He married Zella M. Ellis April 21, 1928, in Burlington.

He had been a farmer in Henry and Jefferson counties all of his life.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Jean Huffman, Libertyville, and LaDoris Boshart, Willmar, Minn.; one son, Arlie Jennings, Fairfield; five brothers Melvin Jennings, Ralph Jennings, John Jennings and Donald Jennings, all of Mount Pleasant, and Tom Jennings, Hillsboro; four sisters, Lean Love, Burlington, Edith Bonser and Jessie Weigert, both of Mount Pleasant, and Evelyn Miller, Hedrick; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Family visitation was held Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The service for Mr. Jennings was held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Clark officiating. Burial was in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for the American Lung Association.
