Becky,
I'm not sure if this is any help or not. There was an Alex Orbin family living in Spring Valley, Dallas Co., Iowa in 1870, 1880, and 1900. In 1900, one son (Fred) is married, one I can't locate (Albert), and the other (George) is living with his folks. George Orbin was born abt 1872 in Iowa. Don't know if Genevieve's father was one of these or maybe a relative of theirs? It might be worth checking into as they lived in the same town.
Alex Orbin was born in New Jersey. It looks like his father was born in Mass. and his mother in New Jersey. Of all the Orbins I came across, the majority were from Prussia/Germany, one from Poland and a couple from Ireland. Hope that helps a little.
Were your grandma and her parents in West Allis City, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1930? You didn't list your great grandfather's name.
Would be interested in learning about your Hopkins line. Ours came from Pennsylvania to Iowa around 1852 but I got stuck when I got back to Pennsylvania around 1750. I have a huge database on the descendants of those Pennsylvania HOPKINS.
Good luck,
Kelly
