Sandra Jean Cheek, 84, of Ames, Iowa, passed away on August 14, 2022, at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa. A public visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Grandon Funeral & Cremation Care (414 Lincoln Way, Ames Iowa) from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with a memorial service following at 6:00 p.m. Online condolences may be directed to www.grandonfuneralandcremationcare.com
Sandra Jean Cheek was born on March 2, 1938, to Glen and Helen (Abbott) Davis in Creston, Iowa. After her graduation from Creston High School, Sandra continued her education and would go on to receive her licensed practical nursing degree through Mary Greeley. She continued to care for the citizens of Ames through the hospital for many years.

On July 7, 1956, Sandra and William Hughes were united in marriage. Together the two would make their home in Ames, Iowa, to raise their family. Though they would later divorce in 1972, that union would bring two sons into this world; Greg and Randy Hughes. Sandra would go on to marry Dee R. Cheek on September 27, 1980.

Sandra loved spending time with her husband, Dee at their trailer at Holiday Lake in the summers. They would also often travel all over, sometimes with brother Bob and his wife, Peg. Together, they even visited their son, Randy in Germany. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time in her garden with her flowers and her tomatoes. Often with her dog Lexi by her side.

Sandra was also a caring and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved family events at her home and the opportunity to spend time with her most cherished people; her family.

Left to cherish Sandra's memory are her children, Greg and Randy Hughes; step-sons, Bruce (Sue) and David Cheek; grandchildren, Megan, Zach, Blake and Garrison Hughes, Stephanie, Sarah, Jonny, Mindy and Troy Cheek as well as 12 great-grandchildren.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Roy Cheek and her granddaughter Melissa Cheek; parents Glen and Helen Davis as well as her brother, Gary Davis.

The family of Sandra Jean Cheek would like to thank the staff of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone as well as the staff of Mary Greeley Hospice for their kindness and generosity during this difficult time.
