William Gordon Keith
William Gordon Keith, 87, of Traer, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in Sunrise Care & Rehab Center of natural causes. Funeral services were held Saturday, 30 July at Traer United Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Rick Vesely. Interment was in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer.
Born June 2, 1918 in Clark Twp., Tama County, he was the son of William C. and Elizabeth (Burns) Keith. He received his education in country schools and graduated from Traer High School in 1935. On Aug. 4, 1945, he married Maxine Schwertley in Waterloo. The couple made their home in Traer while they farmed nearby. After farming for 52 years he retired and worked for Overton Funeral Homes for 13 years. He entered Sunrise Hill Care Center on Dec. 7, 2001. Keith was a member of the Farm Bureau, Traer Lions Club and the Traer United Presbyterian Church where he served as trustee for many years. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Maxine, on Feb. 22, 2005; and two brothers, Kenneth and Paul.
He is survived by one brother, Wayne of Corona, CA; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established. Overton Funeral Home, Traer, handled the arrangements.
