More than a decade has gone by, and while no one has responded to my original request, I've continued to do my research. At this point the question that interests me the most is "where was Isaac Jones" born because I now have good reason to think he was born in England in 1802, came to the USA as a seaman in the early 1820s, and settled for a few years in Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County PA, before working his way across country to Iowa.
I have had a lot of success tracking his descendants across the western part of the United States, and realized that my ancestor (Isaac's grandson Frederick) only spend a few years of his life outside of Iowa. So it looks like I need to come back to Iowa to continue my search, but if in the meantime someone reads this who is interested in what I've found, drop me a line and I'll be happy to share.
