LAST RITES FOR JOS. T. JOHNSON

Joseph T. Johnson were held on Friday, March 20th, at 1:30 from the home and 2:00 o'clock in St. Petri church, Rev. S. T. Nelson in charge. Mrs. S. T. Nelson was in charge. Mrs. Lester Henderson rendered a solo. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and a large concourse of neighbors, relatives and friends came to pay their last respects to the departed. Casket bearers were Eli Olson, S. J. Nessa, G. H. Kirby, C. F. Johnson, John E. Erickson and R. O. Rasmusson. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.

Those from out of town in attendance were Marsden Olson and John Olson and daughter of Kanawha; John Johnson of Elkhart; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sabo of Huxley; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hauser of Whitten; Mrs. A. R. Rankin of Zearing; Mr. and Mrs. Webster Johnson of East Chain, Minn., and a large number of people from McCallsburg and Roland.

JOSEPH T. JOHNSON

Joseph Theodore Johnson, son of the later Elias Johnson and Taaraand Holmesdalstveit, died Wednesday morning, March 18, at the Story City hospital, after an illness of several years, following a stroke suffered about eight years ago.

He had been an invalid since he had a stroke, and of late had been failing gradually. He was taken to the hospital on Monday and shortly after eating his breakfast on Wednesday morning, he passed away.

Mr. Johnson was born on a farm near Roland on March 2, 1870, and died at the Story City hospital on March 18, 1942, at the age of 72 years and 16 days.

He was one of 12 children, four of whom survive him. He was baptized at the St. Petri church in Story City, and confirmed in Bergen church at Roland, where he was a member until he moved to Story City in 1913, where he became a member of St. Petri.

In 1895 he was married to Bertha Gravdahl, and lived on a farm two and a half miles north of McCallsburg until 1913. Mrs. Johnson died August 9, 1925.

On June 9, 1928, he was married to Gurina Benson of Des Moines, who survives him. He is also survived by two adopted children: Hannah (Mrs. Pete Lura) of McCallsburg, Webster Johnson of East Chain, Minn., and two grandchildren. Also two brothers, Eli and Arnie Johnson and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Ferkin and Mrs. M. O. Ferkin.
