Robert James Jack, only son of John and Mary Jack, was born at Augusta, Kan., Feb. 19, 1880 and died at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa, Oct. 7, 1941, aged 61 years, 7 months and 18 days. At the age of 13 he received the rights of baptism at the Christian church in Augusta, Kan. While he never united with any church here he always had a deep interest in Calvary Evangelical church and its welfare, as well as the other churches. In 1898 he, with his parents and two sisters, moved to Story county, and established their home on a farm southwest of Colo where he continued to live for four years. In 1902 the family moved to Crookston, Minn., where they spent one year. On returning to Colo, he purchased a home in Colo where he continued to live with his parents until they passed away, his father of August 20, 1911 and his mother on October 7, 1928, just 13 years ago on the day and hour of his passing. After the death of his parents he continued to live alone in his home until 1930 when his sister and husband established their home together until his passing. He had been a valued employee of the Farmers' Grain & Lumber Co. since its organization 35 years ago. Twenty-nine years ago he was elected manager of the company and has held that position of trust until the time of his death. He always took a deep interest in his work, and devoted his life to it, and was faithful to the trust placed on him to the very best of his health permitted.
He had the interest of the community at heart, and was always willing to help in any any he could for its betterment. He was a respected member of the Masonic, Odd Fellows, Rebekah and Mystic Worker lodges of Colo. He was a man of quiet unassuming nature, and enjoyed doing what he could to make life easier and more pleasant for those around him.
A year ago his health began to fail and he went to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., where he underwent a major operation in March, 1941. For a time it appeared to be successful, but a few months ago his health again failed and all that medical science could do was to no avail and he passed on to eternal rest.
In his immediate family he leaves to mourn his loss, his sister, Mrs. Mae Perry of Colo and one half-sister, Mrs. Cora Myers of Kamiah, Idaho, one nephew and niece of Idaho, together with a large number of relatives and friends.
