Funeral Services Held at Colo for Curtis H. Settle

Funeral services for Curtis H. Settle, 63, who died at his home northwest of Colo Jan. 12, were held at the Evangelical church in Colo, Jan. 14, with Rev. M. C. Miller in charge. The music was by a mixed quartette composed of Isabel Bamford, Lois Dickinson, Wilford Ward and John Lounsberry.

Pallbearers were Marion Stevenson, Clark Elwell, Ralph Handsaker, Ross King, Isaac Berrey and Orville Wier.

The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Colo following the services which were attended by a large concourse of relatives and old friends and neighbors.

The following brief sketch of the life of the deceased was read during the service:
"Curtis Howard Settle was born at Cortland, Ill., Feb. 11, 1877, and passed away Jan. 12, 1941, at his home northwest of Colo, at the age of 63 years, 11 months and one day. He was the youngest son of William Henry and Lucy Settle.

"He was united in marriage to Angie May Gandy at Kingston, Ill., Feb. 21, 1900. To this union were born four sons and one daughter.

"The deceased is survived by his wife; three sons, William Curtis and Francis Gandy of near Colo, Lester Earl, and a daughter, Beeula May, at home. A son, Charles Marion, died in infancy. He is also survived by a brother, Hosea Clifton of Sycamore, Ill., nine grandchildren and a host of friends.

"As a youth he lived on the home farm in Illinois. In 1908 he moved to a farm near Colo, and with the exception of two years spent in Wisconsin, he had made his home in the Colo community from that time until he was called to his eternal rest.

"In 1917 Curtis Settle united with the Colo Evangelical church on confession of faith. His name remained on the church roll from that time until the day of his departure from this life.

"He was a devoted husband and father in a home he loved. Although afflictions of this life were many, he was a patient sufferer until the end.
