Harry Hazlett, editor of the Collins Clipper, announces an unusual event in his domestic life in the following graphic style:
Last Wednesday at about 1 a.m., a little stranger, in weight perhaps ten pounds, put in her appearance at our home. She was introduced by Dr. Knepper, who did it very gracefully, after the manner of ye Pennsylvania Dutch. She asked to be clothed. She was clothed. She wanted meat and drink. She was accommodated. And then she wanted to yell. She yelled. You see she was a stranger and to do the square thing, biblically speaking, we were compelled to take her in, as Mothers Hanson and Kintz said it was the proper thing to do. She speaks an unknown tongue but Mrs. Hanson contends that it is Norwegian, likewise Mrs. Kintz. Dr. Knepper smiled and said it was a “Dutchman, don’t it?’ As we are said to be a partner in the concern, we have a sneaking idea that she is of Irish-Scotch origin, or, to properly speak, Irish. But then all this cuts no figure. It is a Clipper extra and the “press work” appears to be the first class. We always guarantee good work at this office, prices reasonable. Otsy Tootsy! Tum to its old pappy! Boom to-ra! Mother and child doing well, and the “old man” never felt better. Reader, permit us to introduce to you Miss Wadena Hazlett. She’s a scrumptious girl; doesn’t wear corsets as yet, nor paint. “Extra edition of the Clipper! Who wants another copy?”
