The Weather in 1859.
Mr. John Lawson, who came to Iowa in 1851, remembers distinctly the weather during the year 1859. He did not attend the celeberation at Ames on the 4th of July, celebrating the location of the site for the Iowa State College, he being a resident of Des Moines at that time. He remembers the weather on the 4th, however, because is was very cold and everybody was compelled to wear overcoats in order to keep warm. There was a frost that night and much corn was destroyed. He says that frost visited Iowa every month during that year excepting August, but notwithstanding this a very fair corn crop was harvested.---from clipping simply marked 1909
