BARN STRUCK BY LIGGHTNING
Large Livestock Barn Near Roland
Burned-Neighbors Save ResidenceSpecial to the Times Republican.
Roland, June 27.- Thursday evening at 6 o’clock, lightning struck the large livestock barn on L. C. Rierson’s farm, six miles southeast of here and before anything could be done to extinguish the flames the barn was doomed. Neighbors quickly gathered and did splendid work in trying to save the nearby buildings, but a large hog house and a machine shed were also destroyed. The wind blew the flames directly towards the residence, but the fire fighters finally succeeded in saving both the residence and a large double corncrib, the loss will be approximately $3,000, with no insurance, as his policies had expired less than a month ago.
